The first time I went to Grafton Street I didn’t notice a wall graffed by the NSA crew in a parallel alleyway.

So I went there this weekend to make pictures, and bumped into Casm graffing. He told me there is a studio dedicated to graffiti in Liverpool, so my next move will be to go and have a look…
I spent a weekend in my hometown, and dropped by this spot in the outskirts. It is a 500m long wall which is entirely graffed. As usual, everything is not good.

I personally love the Les Lascars murals. For you who are not French, this is a cartoon about caricatured characters living in Paris suburb.
This spot is not the most famous one in La Rochelle though. There is one right in the city center which you can’t miss. It’s very nice to paint there as there are many passers-by, who are not necessarily interested in graffiti, but the pieces there often get their attention.
Promise, next time, I’ll write about it.

Grafton Street is located in the Waterfront Business Area, a warehouse area not far from the city centre.

This street is the playground of the very good crew NSA (Casm, Azid, Beta, Dead, Tea One, Pois, Care, Phog, Syph, Inoe, Hope, Ziek, Moak, Sta One, Kesk, Seez, Kore) who develop a very detailed wildstyle:
For more info an interview of Azid is available on World Graffiti.
During my stay in London, I of course went to see what was new in Leake Street.

And, as is usual now that anyone can legally paint in the tunnel, not everything was good:

I had not been in London for a while, and as far as street art is concerned, things moved quite a lot.

I give you as proof my sneaky morning photo session, which allowed me to find:
- beautiful works by Roa (especially the rabbit),
- three new Banksy which had unfortunately or fortunately, depending on your point of view- been defaced by Robbo (complete story here:Banksy Vs Robbo),
- two works by Vhils made for the Grifters exhibition, which is organized by Steve Lazarides,
- a beautiful joint work by C215 and the Canadian artist Indigo in the yard of the Cargo,
- a legal mural by Oliver Winconek
- and, last but not least, a huge Space Invader in Bricklane market, also made for the Grifters exhibition.
Enjoy the pictures:

Once again in the Belleville area of Paris, rue Dénoyez is a street which is entirely graffed and constantly evolving. A lot of artists use this street where painting is legal, and the beautiful murals made there never stay for long.

The atmosphere is very nice and the graffers are well accepted by the population Here are a few pictures to give you an idea, but I can only advise you go and make up your own mind.

La Kommune, which used to be called La Forge, is an artist squat located rue Ramponeau in the Belleville area of Paris. L’Atlas and Teurk’s studios are hosted there.

In the yard the visitor admires a huge red, black and white mural, product of a collaboration between several artists like Speedy Graffito, Sunset, Above, L’Atlas and Zoo Project. There is also a smaller mural by Sunset and L’Atlas.
Then at the back of the yard three walls are free for everyone. Small gardens can be found in the whole yard; they were created for the inhabitants of the area.
This place is thus open to anyone, regardless of age, which is very nice.

I mentioned this artist squat in the rue Neuve Tolbiac in a previous post. I went there to practice a bit, and made some pics.

Unfortunately the security guy, who is new addition to the street, told me it was now forbidden to graf on the Frigos building because it is going to be renovated. This is sad because the walls had been free for everyone to express oneself for almost 20 years…

The “Né Dans La Rue” exhibition shows the New York origins of graffiti. First of all, in the basement, the 70’s are represented by documents dating by to this period, like blackbooks of legendary graffers, records of the NYPD, painting equipment showing how luckier we are today, etc.

Some of the sketches in the blackbooks were reproduced by the graffers themselves, for instance a whole train coach by Seen on the wall of the room we are in. This gives a peculiar impression but immerses us in the atmosphere from then. One of the walls is covered by pictures of New York train coaches; the origin of each one is explained, as well as the letterings they show.
Upstairs, an exhibition features works by Jonone and Poch, reflecting today’s graffiti. This is temporary, as the exhibition changes constantly.
In the garden two huge walls have been set up, showing, when I was there, works by Obey and the French stencil artist YZ. Moreover the front of the Fondation Cartier has been covered by a giant graffiti.
Outside the foundation, on the street side, the fence is free to use for passing graffers, which is nice considering the location.
Here are some pics, mostly of the outside fence, as it was forbidden to make pictures inside the foundation.

JR and his team have taken over the quaysides of the Île Saint Louis in the 4th arrondissement of Paris since last week. When I went there they were still working on their project, which will be launched on Saturday, along with the “Nuits blanches”. A movie will be shown in the yard of the 4th arrondissement townhall for the occasion.

There will also be an exhibition at the Pavillon de l’Arsenal (21 Boulevard Morland, 75004 Paris) until the 23 October.

Here is how the project looked like when I went there. Of course I will post the finished project in time.
