Streets of Manchester (Manchester)

By admin, 24 August 2010 11:16 PM

During my visit in Manchester for the exhibition The beautiful and the damned, I happened to have time for a quick stroll in the city, in particular in the Northern Quarter.

Although Manchester and Liverpool are famous for their animosity as far as football is concerned, street artists have made their own choice. In Manchester streets can for instance be found pieces by Obey, Banksy, Space Invader, Kid Acne, Ariz or Roid MSK:

London Streets

I had not been in London for a while, and as far as street art is concerned, things moved quite a lot.

I give you as proof my sneaky morning photo session, which allowed me to find:

- beautiful works by Roa (especially the rabbit),
- three new Banksy which had unfortunately or fortunately, depending on your point of view- been defaced by Robbo (complete story here:Banksy Vs Robbo),
- two works by Vhils made for the Grifters exhibition, which is organized by Steve Lazarides,
- a beautiful joint work by C215 and the Canadian artist Indigo in the yard of the Cargo,
- a legal mural by Oliver Winconek
- and, last but not least, a huge Space Invader in Bricklane market, also made for the Grifters exhibition.

Enjoy the pictures:

Bristol Streets

I did not spend a long time in Bristol streets, because the queue for the Banksy exibition was very long. But the city seems to have a lot of street art pieces.

These are the photos I made in only one hour:

Banksy Vs Bristol Museum

For you people who have been living in a cave these last months, the very media-friendly Banksy is currently having an exhibition in the Bristol Museum & Art Gallery.

If you want to go there, be aware that you’ll have to be incredibly patient. Not less than two hours before I could enter… And it was in the middle of the week!!

Then, once inside, you queue again, in front of each painting. But it’s worth the wait: the exhibition is much diversified with huge paintings, hilarious ones, pretty weird robots, sculptures…

The exhibition is composed of three distinct rooms. The first one mainly contains paintings, as well as what seems to be a reproduction of Banksy’s workshop, which is full of details, so keep a keen eye!

The second room contains pieces made for the fake pet shop of New York, that is to say embezzled animal robots (salami snake or chicken made of nuggets). You’ll also see pics explaining how they were made in the fake workshop.

The main hall of the museum hosts embezzled sculptures, such as a revisited ice cream truck, and a part of Stonehenge made of chemical toilets, which was made for Glastonbury Festival a few years ago.

What amazed me the most was the number of people who queued for hours to see Banksy’s exhibition, and do not even go and see the rest of the museum. That’s a shame, because Banksy hid a lot of stuff everywhere in the museum. I appreciated that; because it felt like being in the street, looking for each tiny detail.

Anyway, except for the crowd, this was a great exhibition, and you should definitely go there.

Brighton Streets

By admin, 12 June 2009 11:11 AM

I spent a long weekend in Brighton, the seaside city south of London, and used the opportunity to look for street art.

Well the city is full of it. I for instance liked the murals by team MSK, who I thought was Californian -including Revok and Saber- but who apparently expanded to England. There are also murals by team Heavy Artillery, often made with MSK.
I think Gary’s lettering (from MSK) is very impressive and beautiful.

There are also some classics in Brighton, for instance the kissing bobbies by Banksy, which is apparently a fake -the original one having suffered along the time.

If you’re going to this city, look behind the roadsigns, and you’ll find stickers by Snub, London Police or Toaster, sometimes the three of them on the same sign.

Anyway, Brighton is well-stocked in street art, and the quality and quantity is impressive for the size of the city.

Banksy à la galerie Andipa

By admin, 26 May 2009 3:25 PM

The last time I was staying in London, Andipa gallery was showing a dozen of works by Banksy, including the biggest canvas he ever painted. This exhibition was not supported by the artist, and showed all the works Andipa stored up over the years.

Because of that, there was no link between the works, which made the exhibition look untidy. But Banksy  being rare these days, it was nice to see so many of his works in one place.

Here I the pics I made there. Sorry about their quality, but the paintings were protected by glass, which caused reflections.
